Summary:
Conducts a variety of routine tasks to ensure the optimal performance of the wastewater treatment plant; tests wastewater to ensure compliance with State of Maryland guidelines; and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
1.
Conducts lab tests; processes control tests 2.
Conducts State control tests 3.
Processes control tests on Final Effluentor SBR's and maintain complete records for all tests; 4.
Calibrates meters; 5.
Checks lab equipment temperature, BOD's, and Balancer; 6.
Prepare necessary records and reports associated with the operations program; 7.
Supervise the deployment of all personnel and equipment placed in his charge; 8.
Responsible to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent for the quality of work and standards of wastewater treatment; 9.
Carry out preventative maintenance inspections and operations on all assigned equipment and facilities; 10.
Obtain necessary wastewater and solids samples; 11.
Responsible for compliance of approved safety regulations; 12.
Work in rotation with others on standby duty, weekend duty, overtime and holidays.
13.
Assist in operation of WWTP as needed; 14.
Responsible, when on standby duty, for informing necessary persons when the plant is to be placed on alarm status and be available to respond in the event of an alarm; 15.
Meet with the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent on a regular basis and inform him of any conditions which the operator considers are not normal; 16.
Assist in the procurement of materials, supplies and equipment and maintenance of adequate records:

Assist the Utilities Field Service Division when requested, to include responding to calls for service after normal business hours; 18.
Perform other such related duties, responsibilities and functions as may be assigned.
Education and
Experience:
1.
Grade 12 or equivalent; 2.
Must obtain a Class 5A Wastewater License within 4 years; 3.
Supervisor's experience would be an asset; 4.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered; 5.
Valid driver's license necessary to perform duties.
Work Environment:
Plant operations are conducted in environments that include the presence of foul odors, raw sewage, sewage sludge, organic and inorganic solids, wastewater mist, spillage and varying electrical and trip hazards.
Work in varying conditions including indoors, outdoors, in all weather conditions to include rain, snow, sun, heat, cold are required.
Standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, stairwells, scaffolding and working on elevated platforms is required.
Lifting heavy items is occasionally required (not to exceed 50lbs).
